Eat Smart, Live Well: My Secrets to a Healthy and Happy Life
“My Health Journey Through Diets to Discoveries: My Path to Vitality”
Every morning, I wake up and read a couple of stories on Medium. I enjoy reading and learning about any topic, as long as it has a message, a learning aspect, or is informational. Today, I read the article https://medium.com/in-fitness-and-in-health/a-harvard-gut-doctor-avoids-these-4-popular-foods-at-all-costs-to-beat-inflammation-304395a575cd and it made me think. We read so many articles about what is good to eat, and I — at least I am — am getting lost on what is now right or wrong, what I can and cannot eat.
In the search for eternal youth, especially as we get older and start feeling our bodies are “deteriorating,” the search becomes more intense. Wouldn’t you agree? Nowadays, food is constantly on our minds because it has become so difficult to buy any good food. North American food is littered with pesticides (even so-called organic — based on what I have read), chemicals, sugars, additives, and much more. We see the results in our society; people have more diseases than ever before, and most are overweight. No wonder if you know that Big Pharma companies own the food companies; it’s a self-serving marketing model. I won’t delve into this topic any further now.
If you read enough articles or books, each has its own advice and expertise, just like this gut doctor from Harvard in the article. I have been reading steadily about Dr. Mercola, Dr. Grundy, to name a few. Being in my late 50s, needless to say, I don’t want to wake up with aches and pains (read inflammation), and I want to be in good shape when I finally have grandchildren.
Over my life, I have tried countless diets. As a Mediterranean type, I tend to gain weight easily, just by looking at food! Thank goodness I have always been very active. Reading all those articles and books, and listening to podcasts, I came to the conclusion that “the old farmer’s diet” is still the best for me. The old farmer’s diet includes meat, potatoes, and vegetables. That doesn’t exclude a good slice of bread or a great-tasting dessert (which I have a weak spot for). I couldn’t do smoothies, and no carbs, or only high fats, or always counting my calories or macros. I have way more interesting things to do.
